Instructions on massaging five key acupoints for sleep induction: activate your body's natural sleep switch and awaken your ability to rest deeply.

In Traditional Chinese Medicine theory, sleep disorders are often related to imbalances in the Qi and blood of the heart, liver, and kidneys. Excessive heart fire leads to irritability and difficulty sleeping, stagnant liver Qi results in vivid dreams and frequent awakenings, and insufficient kidney Yin causes early awakenings and fatigue. Stimulating specific acupoints can balance the Qi and blood of the internal organs, guiding Yang into Yin, thus achieving the effect of falling asleep naturally.

The grapeseed oil in Sleep Relaxation Body Massage Oil is an excellent medium that allows for smooth gliding when pressing acupoints, avoiding friction and discomfort. Meanwhile, the essential oil molecules of magnolia and lavender can penetrate with pressure, exerting a calming effect through both the skin and the sense of smell.

Five Acupressure Points for Sleep Induction

1. Shenmen acupoint (the original acupoint of the Heart Meridian) — calms the mind.

  • Location : On the wrist crease, in the depression on the side closest to the little finger.
  • Technique : Use the pad of your other thumb to press vertically on the Shenmen acupoint with a steady and gradual pressure for 15-20 seconds , then gently rub for 30 seconds . Repeat 3-5 times with each hand.
  • Feeling : When you press it, you will feel a soreness that goes straight to your heart, which helps to clear your mind of distractions. It is especially suitable for people who overthink and whose minds keep racing when they are lying in bed.

2. Neiguan acupoint (pericardium meridian point) — relieves chest tightness and depression.

  • Location : About three finger widths (approximately three finger-widths) above the midpoint of the wrist crease, between the two tendons.
  • Technique : Press vertically downwards with the tip of your thumb until you feel a distinct soreness, numbness, or distension. Press for 10 seconds , rest for 5 seconds , and repeat 10 times .
  • Feeling : This acupoint is a key point for regulating the autonomic nervous system and can effectively relieve insomnia accompanied by palpitations, tension, and gastrointestinal discomfort.

3. Sanyinjiao acupoint (the meeting point of the liver, spleen, and kidney meridians) — Nourishes Yin and calms the mind.

  • Location : About four finger widths above the bony protrusion on the inside of the ankle (medial malleolus), on the posterior border of the tibia.
  • Method : Sit with one leg bent at the knee and place it on the knee of the other leg. Press firmly with the thumb of the same-side hand and massage in a clockwise circular motion for 2-3 minutes . Do this once for each leg before bed.
  • Note : Pregnant women should avoid pressing this acupoint.
  • My experience : This acupoint is an important point for gynecology and calming the mind. It can comprehensively regulate liver blood, spleen qi, and kidney yin. It is especially effective for menopausal hot flashes and sleep problems caused by menstrual discomfort.

4. Anmian acupoint (Extraordinary Point) – Specifically treats insomnia.

  • Location : The midpoint of the line connecting the depression behind the earlobe (Yifeng acupoint) and the depression at the midpoint of the posterior hairline (Fengchi acupoint).
  • Technique : Use the pads of your middle fingers to simultaneously press the Anmian acupoints on both sides of your head, applying slight pressure towards the tip of your nose (diagonally upward and inward), hold for 30 seconds , then release. Repeat 5 times .
  • Feeling : When pressing, there is often a strong soreness that goes straight to the brain, which can instantly relax tense head muscles and relieve headaches and tinnitus that cause difficulty falling asleep.

5. Yongquan acupoint (Kidney Meridian Well Point) — Guides fire downwards

  • Location : The depression in the center of the front third of the sole of the foot, at the intersection of the herringbone pattern that appears on the front of the foot when the foot is curled up.
  • Technique : This is the most crucial step before bed. Take a generous amount of massage oil and use your thumb to firmly rub the Yongquan acupoint from the heel to the toes, 100 times on each foot, until the soles of your feet feel warm.
  • Feeling : The warmth from the soles of your feet gradually spreads throughout your body, guiding excess "heat" (such as dry mouth and irritability) downwards and promoting deep relaxation. It is very suitable for those with a "hot upper body and cold lower body" constitution who experience cold hands and feet and irritability.

By engaging with these "sleep switches" that your body has built into every day, you will no longer rely on external medications, but will learn to awaken your inner capacity for self-healing and deep rest.
